Pork and Beef Sinigang

Ingredients:

1 tbsp. lard
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 onion
6 medium-sized tomatoes
10 pieces camias
1 tbsp. patis (fish sauce)
1/2 kg. beef, cut in serving pieces
1/2 kg. pork, cut in serving pieces
6 pieces native gabi (taro)
6 cups rice water
3 cups kangkong leaves and tender stalks (swamp cabbage)
5 pieces long pepper (hot pepper)
1-1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. monosodium glutamate

Procedure:

Fry the garlic in hot lard until golden brown. Add the onions and cook until they become transparent. Put in the tomatoes and camias. When soft, crush them and add patis. Drop the beef and cook covered for 5 minutes. Add the pork, cook for 5 minutes more, turning occasionally. Pour in rice water and cover tightly. Let boil. When boiling, reduce the heat and simmer until pork and beef become tender. Add gabi. When tender, drop the kangkong and sili. Season with salt and monosodium glutamate. Serve hot.
